This was what the site of St. Piran's Oratory looked like on Sunday

It may look like a building site but this is an archaeological excavation to uncover and hopefully conserve the church, which dates from the sixth century and is dedicated to Cornwall's patron saint, St. Piran

The concrete blockwork dates from 1910 when the fragile stonework remains of the oratory were encased for protection

The majority of recent photographs on the Cornwall CAM web site are taken with either a Nikon Coolpix 8800 digital camera, Sony a300 or a57 DSLRs with 18-55 & 18-250 mm lenses or Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ10 compact camera.  The photos are then reduced in resolution and in file size by JPEG compression for publishing on the Web.  Occasionally, photographs are taken on a Samsung Galaxy S3 mobile phone camera.   Photographs on the "Archive" pages taken from 7 July 2000 to 19 December 2004 were taken with a Nikon Coolpix 990; those taken before 7 July 2000 were taken with a Nikon Coolpix 900s.  If you wish to copy any of the photographs for non-commercial purposes, please do so, but please credit Charles Winpenny as the photographer, or if they are for use on your own website, please add a link to this site.
